Beginning on November 12, 2024, the Gift Shop and Visitors Center will be closed for the Winter 2024-2025 season. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Reopening will be Spring 2025.

Fort Adams Trust Welcomes New Executive Director

(Newport, RI) – The Fort Adams Trust is pleased to announce the recent hiring of Regan Miner as the organization’s new Executive Director. Miner is a public historian and historic preservation advocate. With over 10 years of experience in historic preservation and nonprofit leadership, Miner will oversee programming and initiatives that will support and promote the Fort’s mission, while building partnerships that engage Newport’s community and celebrate its rich history.

“We are thrilled to have Regan step into this role,” says Paul Marshall, Board President. “Her strong professional background in historical preservation and proven track record of success is exactly what the Fort needs at this time. I very much look forward to working with Regan and I think our community will as well.”

Miner most recently served as the Executive Director of the Norwich Historical Society in Connecticut, where she successfully raised over $1.5 million in public and private funding, donations, and corporate sponsorships to restore and activate multiple historic assets within the community as publicly accessible spaces.

 

“I am incredibly honored to be the new Executive Director of the Fort Adams Trust,” Miner said. “I look forward to working with the board, staff, volunteers, and our community partners to develop new and innovative ideas to expand our programming, partnerships, and audience. It’s an exciting time for the Fort and the City with a series of upcoming milestone anniversaries such as the 200th anniversary of Fort Adams this year and the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026, so there’s a lot to look forward to in the future.”

 

Miner will hit the ground running as the Fort enters another busy tourist season. One of her top priorities will be to spearhead a new strategic plan that will further enhance the mission of the Fort and expand the Fort’s reach to obtain capital funding for restoration. Since 1994, Historic Fort Adams has been operated by the Fort Adams Trust, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to preserve and revitalize historic Fort Adams for the public’s benefit. We depend on our community to further our mission through membership fees, sponsorships, and donations from our Annual Appeal.

Your support ensures that we keep the Fort open and safely accessible to the public. It also enables us to expand our community events, recreational activities, educational programming, and especially our ongoing restoration efforts. Thanks to your support, this past year, we were able to complete the first phase of restoration on the Fort Adams Southeast Demi-Bastion. This is a truly unique section of the fort which includes the original kitchen, food storage and latrines. The roof has been sealed and the arches are restored. With your support, we plan to continue these efforts to fully reopen this one-of-a-kind area of this National Historic Landmark.
